A century after his birth in Rio, Tom Jobim’s songbook still defines bossa nova.
Born in the late 1950s, the sound slowed samba down and laced it with jazz harmonies and soft, hushed vocals. Jobim was its chief composer, and his songs carried it overseas, changing how the world heard Brazil.
Getz/Gilberto took his ‘The Girl from Ipanema’ into the charts and won Album of the Year at the Grammys, while at ‘Águas de Março’ was later voted the best Brazilian song of all time. Sixty years on, few sing these songs as naturally as Will Santt, in a performance as intimate as the music itself.
Enjoy a view overlooking the stage from our mezzanine restaurant.
