The Meteors are pioneers of psychobilly, a genre blending punk rock and rockabilly with horror-themed imagery. Formed in South London in 1980 by P. Paul Fenech, the band quickly built a reputation for their raw sound and rebellious attitude.
Their debut album, In Heaven (1981), is considered the first psychobilly record and helped define the genre. Known for their intense live shows and fiercely independent ethos - summed up in their motto “Only The Meteors are pure psychobilly”- they developed a loyal global following.
Despite numerous lineup changes, Fenech has remained the driving force behind the band. Decades on, The Meteors continue to influence underground music and remain central figures in the psychobilly scene.
