About:
Rory Ingham invites one of the most in-demand trombonists in the Netherlands, Maarten Combrink (Metropole Orchestra). Together they explore the sound palette of the trombone, combining influences from different musical scenes. For this special one-off August show at the Vortex, they join forces with an all-star British rhythm section of Matt Carter (piano), Joe Lee (double bass), and Joe Dessauer (drums).

Ingham and Combrink first met in Holland 5 years ago and have been playing together ever since, playing regular shows around Europe with both their two-trombone quintet and also with the highly acclaimed Nabou Claerhout Trombone Ensemble’.

This quintet demonstrates Rory and Maarten’s individual styles of playing, unified by their love and appreciation of the trombone lineage. Exploring the sounds of the great two-trombone quintet featuring J.J Johnson and Kai Winding, Maarten and Rory will be showcasing their wide range of trombone influences from Jack Teagarden to Elliot Mason via Urbie Green and Carl Fontana. Expect it to sound tight, rich and swinging!
