From 2000, the Millennium Excellence Awards (MEA) have served as Africa's most distinguished benchmark for recognising Black and African excellence. MEA honours pioneering scholars, visionary leaders, and transformative changemakers whose remarkable contributions have shaped, sustained, and propelled African identity across generations and continents.
Held under the esteemed patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, MEA has journeyed across multiple African nations, celebrating over 100 distinguished honorees drawn from public affairs, academia, business, science, the arts, and civil society. Past laureates include UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, and President Cyril Ramaphosa, visionaries whose enduring legacies exemplify the transformative impact MEA seeks to honour.
In 2026, MEA hosts its first Awards ceremony in Washington D.C., celebrating a significant step across the Atlantic.
