Signing to Brooklyn-based record label Bayonet Records (Beach Fossils), Semones released her debut album Animaru under the label in 2025, and received worldwide recognition for her songwriting that features a seamless, fluttering mix between English and Japanese lyrics. Mei describes her style of writing as something that comes with whatever feels natural to her at the time. As a former jazz student at Berklee - Mei finds herself drawing inspiration from adored transcripts, recordings and chord progressions she has heard over the years.<br><br>Coined an &ldquo;artist to watch&rdquo; by FADER Label, Pigeons &amp; Planes, The NY Times and more - Mei Semones is a rising star.
