The Patrick O'Keeffe Traditional Music Festival classes/workshops take place from on Saturday 26th of October at 11am.
Liz Kane is a traditional fiddle player from Letterfrack in North Connemara. She grew up in a musical house, playing music with her sister Yvonne, who is also a fiddle player. From a young age, Liz has been very influenced by the traditional music of Sligo and East Galway and in particular, the music of the great fiddle player from East Galway, Paddy Fahey. Liz competed in many music competitions and won many All Ireland Fleadh titles including the prestigious Fiddler of Dooney award in 1992, the Fiddler of Oriel in 1995 and 1996 and the All Ireland senior fiddle title in 1995. Liz spent five years studying music at University College Cork where she received her Bachelor of Music degree and continued her studies with a Higher Diploma in Education (Music). Liz has also performed with the Irish- American traditional all women’s group, Cherish the Ladies and Kerry accordion player, Danny O’Mahony. With four critically acclaimed albums with her sister, Yvonne, The Kane Sisters have released ‘The Well Tempered Bow,’ ‘Under the Diamond’ and ‘Side by Side’ and ‘In Memory of Paddy Fahey’. Liz is an avid composer of tunes and has written a number of compositions recorded on these albums. Liz has toured extensively with Cherish the ladies in the United States, Ireland and the UK since 2003. The Kane Sisters received the TG4/Gradam Ceoil Award in 2024 for the Group of the year, one of the highest awards in Traditional Irish Music.
