Carolyn Carlson: Islands Carolyn Carlson on nykytanssin merkittävimpiä uranuurtajia ja jättänyt lähtemättömän jäljen myös suomalaiseen tanssikenttään muun muassa Jorma Uotisen ja Tero Saarisen mentorina ja yhteistyökumppanina. Oulussa Carlson vierailee nyt ensi kertaa. Hänen vuonna 2025 kantaesitetty koreografiansa Islands on nykytanssiteos neljälle esiintyjälle. Kolmesta soolosta ja yhdestä duetosta rakentuva teos tarkastelee ihmisyyden ristiriitoja, vaistoja ja haurautta. Illan päättävään Rage-duettoon Carolyn Carlson tilasi musiikin Petri Sirviöltä vuoden 2025 alussa. Pariisin Musée d'Orsayssa kesällä 2025 ensi-iltansa saanut teos on kiertänyt menestyksekkäästi Eurooppaa äänitallenteen kanssa, ja kuullaan nyt toista kertaa elävän kuoron kanssa. Alkusoittona Islands-kokonaisuudelle Mieskuoro Huutajat esittää tilaisuuteen räätälöidyn pienoiskonsertin. Carlson now visits Oulu for the first time. Premiered in 2025, Islands is a contemporary dance work for four performers. Comprising three solos and one duet, it explores the contradictions, instincts, and fragility of the human condition. Its precise and intensely physical movement invites audiences to engage with their own perceptions and interpretations. Since then, the artists have worked together in cities including Paris, Palermo and Roubaix. For the closing duet Rage, Carolyn Carlson commissioned a score from Petri Sirviö in early 2025. The title and themes of the first draft prompted discussion, leading to a more restrained second version. Carlson ultimately asked Huutajat to restore the sounds of rage, fear and anger alongside the quieter passages. Premiered at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris in summer 2025, the work has since toured Europe successfully with a recorded soundtrack. In Oulu, it will be performed for only the second time with the choir singing live. Opening the evening, Mieskuoro Huutajat will perform a specially commissioned mini-concert created for the occasion. Duration: 1 h 15 min
